  Experience Required: Basic carving skills
  Instructor: Lloyd Thomas

Have you ever dreamed of carving a totem pole? In a four day class Lloyd Thomas will take you through that great West Coast adventure. You will start with a 4 ft. cedar pole and using a hatchet and mallet rough out 2 West Coast figures (eagle, bear, raven, wolf, beaver or owl), then progress to using large flat chisels. The detail work continues with a knife, followed by staining and painting, allowing you to go home with a finished pole. During the class Lloyd will explain the designs, the significance of the figures and relate stories of the West Coast. At the end of the final day you will perform the "Waking up Ceremony" and bring the spirits within your pole to life. Very basic carving experience is required. A light lunch will be provided each day (please advise us if you have any food allergies).

Required Equipment: Cedar poles and most tools will be provided, you will need to bring a 2" hatchet, a rubber mallet and a work-mate bench to hold the pole.

Arrangements can be made for Lloyd Thomas to come to your location to teach Totem Pole or wood carving.
